In views enhance psychological well-being. There was no evidence

In this world we are constantly surrounded by certain religions, and religious peoples beliefs and morals, but do people really benefit from believing in a certain religion? Are religious people even happier than non-religious people? Are religious people more successful than non-religious people, or less successful? Are countries with a higher atheist population more peaceful than countries that have more religious people living there? From what has been studied on this certain topic, it has become evident that most people do not benefit mentally, and socially from believing in a certain religion. It has actually been found in a few studies that religion can negatively affect people emotionally, mentally, and socially. According to a study that was published in the October issue of Psychological Medicine, it was found that religious people tend to be more prone to becoming depressed than people who identify as being non-religious. The study followed over eight-thousand religious and non-religious people in 7 different countries in rural and urban areas for an entire year, and the people were examined at every 6 and 12 month interval. The people who conducted the study found that 10.3 percent of participants that were religious became depressed, and only 7 percent of non-religious people in the study became depressed. The study also found that the people who identified as being religious that lived in the UK were three times as likely to become depressed than religious people from other countries. The study also found that places in the U.S. with the highest religious rates, are also known to have the highest depression rates. The researchers of the study concluded  “these results do not support the notion that religious and spiritual life views enhance psychological well-being. There was no evidence of religion acting as a buffer to prevent depression after a serious life event.” If religion did not ever exist, then the course of history would look completely different than how it does. Many wars and conflicts that happened were started all because of religion and the rules that are involved with religion. Even today there are still conflicts that are going on all because of religion, so if religion did not ever exist, then the world would look a lot different than it does today. For example the period of time after the Revolutionary war involved a lot of religious persecution, because the different Christian denominations were having a lot of conflict with each other for many different reasons. There was a lot of religious persecution against the Baptists and the Presbyterians at the time, and the Anglicans were physically assaulting the Baptists. If religion did not exist, then these conflicts would have never had to happen, and the people would have probably just been peaceful towards each other instead of discriminating each other just because they believed in two different things. Another good example of religion causing conflicts in the world, is the hate that Jewish people have has to endure throughout history. For example in Germany, Hitler, who was a theist, discriminated against the Jewish in Germany and caused a lot of conflict for the Jewish and destroyed many Jewish families and lives. Around 6 million Jewish people were killed in the Holocaust because of Hitler. If religion did not ever exist, then this sort of discrimination would probably not have ever happened, and those 6 million Jewish people would have not have been killed in Germany just because of what they believed in.Another example of conflict that happened because people believe in a savior, is what happened on the 11th day is September in 2001. 9/11 happened because certain religious extremists believed that it would honor their God to destroy the financial epicenter in New York City known as the World Trade Center, to make a statement for their God and what they believe in. Almost 3000 people were killed because of what those terrorists believed. Many people were affected by what happened that day, and many families were destroyed. If people did not believe in a savior then this would not have happened, and the U.S. would not have had to go through the fear of that terrible day. Another example of conflict that happened because people believe that there is a savior is the crusades. The crusades were a series of wars between the Christians and the Muslims that were centered around the City of Jerusalem around one thousand years ago. There were many things that happened in these wars, but they mostly occurred for religious reasons. There were about 8 crusades that happened, and it is estimated that around 1.7 million people died because of it. Again if religion did not exist, then all of those people probably would not have died, and who knows how different the world would look today if the crusades did not happen. Many people in the world identify as Christian and believe what the Bible says and follow what it says, but there any many verses in the Bible that make it seem like a book that people should not be following. For example Timothy 2:12 says: “I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, she must be silent.” This Bible verse is obviously very sexist towards women and makes the Bible seem like a book that people should not be following at all. That’s not the only sexist bible verse in the Bible, there is also Ephesians 5:22 which says,”Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord.” This makes it seem like the Bible favors men over women, and does not think that women are equal to men, making it also seem like people who believe in the Bible and follow it have those same views. There is also a bible verse that seems like it approves of slavery. It is 1 Peter 2:18 and it says: “Slaves, submit yourselves to your masters with all respect, not only to the good and gentle but also to the cruel.” This makes it seem like Christians that follow the Bible also approve of slavery. It is not only the Bible that has parts that seem bad, but also the Quran has parts of it that make it seem bad. The Quran contains 109 verses that say that you should start conflict with people who do not believe in their religion. Some of the verses contain graphic material, such as instructing them to cut off the heads of the people who do not believe in Allah, and tells them to kill infidels just for their religion. Most Muslim people don’t follow this part, but some religious extremists do and it has led to a lot of conflict with other people throughout history, and even today there is still some conflict happening between Muslims and other religions. Norway has been known to be the happiest country in the world for a while, but just recently their non-religious population outnumbered their number of people in the country who believe in a religion. Still this year with more non-religious people in their country, they are known as the happiest country in the entire world. This means that people there do not need to believe in a savior to be happy. The country that is known to be the least happiest country in the entire world is Burundi, which is 67% Christian. There is also Syria which is known to be one of the least happiest countries, which is 74% Muslim. So the least happiest countries in the world are more religious than the happiest countries in the world. With all of this information it is quite evident that the world does not need a savior. The world doesn’t need a savior because non-religious people are less likely to become depressed than people who believe in a religion, and the world doesn’t need a savior because of all of the conflicts that it caused because of people believing other things that people disagree with, and we don’t need a savior because of all of the horrible things that the Bible and the quran say, and we don’t need a savior because the happiest countries tend to be less religious, and the least happiest countries tend to be more religious. Non-religious people can still be successful, for example people like Steven Hawking and Richard Dawkins are quite successful even though they do not believe in any sort of religion. There’s no knowing for sure how the world would look without religion, but with all of the major conflicts and wars that were caused by religion, it seems like it could have been more peaceful. People believing that there is a savior and following certain rules for that savior has caused much conflict in the world and does not benefit them much at all, so it is quite obvious that the world does not need a savior.
