Literature materials loading clay above 3wt% have corrosion inhibition

Literature Survey on corrosion protection by polymer
clay nanocomposite coatings:

There
are many studies that discussed the subject of corrosion protection for steel alloys
by applying polymeric coatings with many different additives in nanoscale (polymer nanocomposites) in particular clay or clay
derivatives to improve the anticorrosive property of these polymers,
organized as follows:

Yeh J et al. 2002 32, prepared conducting polypyrrole clay nanocomposite
coatings by the dispersing of a low amount of organic and inorganic nanoscale
montmorillonite clay (e.g. 1wt%) MMT clay in the organic polymer to increase the corrosion resistance of this polymer matrix
(PPY) on cold rolled steel (CRS). They
used in situ oxidative polymerization to prepare this polymer nanocomposite.
PCNs characterized by several methods like x-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transformation infrared (FTIR), transmission
electron microscopy (TEM), Thermogravimetric
analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). By the series of
electrochemical methods, they found the PPY nanocomposites with a small amount of
clay in nanoscale have better anticorrosive properties than pure polypyrrole.

Also by Yeh J.
2003 32 with other research group
applied poly (o-ethoxy aniline)-clay nanocomposite
coatings on cold-rolled steel (CRS) on the approach of the previous
study in (5wt%) aqueous NaCl. First: they
prepared these anticorrosive materials by effectively dispersing of MMT clay in the polymer matrix and
characterized these materials in different ways. Several important
properties were studied in addition to anticorrosive property such as molecular barrier, thermal stability,
optical and electrical conductivity properties, by many techniques, for
instance, molecular permeability measurements (GPA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA)
and UV-vis spectra. From electrochemical measurements they found the PCN
materials loading clay above 3wt% have
corrosion inhibition effect better than other bulk (PEA).
